There are alot of members who are under the impression there PENISON and HEALTH BENIFITS are safe. THIS is not so. The STATE is in charge of your PENISON which is under the GOVERNORS CONTROL. In 1993 and 1995 GOVERNOR CUOMO and PATAKI tried to raid our PENSION FUND but
were sued by the COMPTROLLER and supported by the RETIREES ASSOCATION and were stopped from taking OUR money.
In 2000 the ASSOCIATION helped pass the PERMANENT COLA BILL .In 2004 GOVERNOR PATAKI tried to change the PENISON FUND the RETIREES ASSOCIATION helped stopped the GOVERNOR.
The RETIREES ASSOCIATION has lobbied since 1995 in ALBANY to get a HEALTH INSURANCE PROTECTION BILL passed but in 1999,2004 and 2005 GOVERNOR PATAKI vetoed the bill each time.
Last year GOVERNOR SPITZER vetoed the bill but recommended a TASK FORCE be set up and come back with recommedations, that is in the works now with the BILL being presented again stating that WHAT YOU RETIREE WITH IS WHAT YOU KEEP.The TEACHERS have had this protection since 1994.
Right know your District CAN DECIDE TO TAKE AWAY ALL OR SOME OF YOUR BENIFITS , OR HAVE YOU PAY FOR THEM IF YOU ARE A RETIREE AND THE UNION CAN NOT HELP A RETIREE BY LAW.
THE NEW YORK POLICE AND FIRE RETIREE ASSOCIATION IS NOT ONLY FOR RETIREES, ACTIVE
POLICE AND FIREFIGHTERS CAN JOIN AND SUPPORT THIS ORGANIZATION.
MEMBERSHIP IS $30.00 A YEAR AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND MEETINGS AND IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE.
